How to Groom a Dachshund at Home

The Dachshund — long in body, mighty in spirit! Whether smooth, long-haired, or wire-haired, this little legend requires more grooming than their size suggests, especially if they’re prone to rolling in mischief.” — Lola

At-Home Grooming Routine

  • Brushing:
    • Smooth-coated: weekly with a soft bristle brush and/or rubber brush.
    • Long-haired: daily brushing with a slicker brush and a metal comb.
    • Wire-haired: Weekly brushing with a slicker brush and a metal comb.
  • Bathing: Every 4–6 weeks with a dog-safe shampoo (or more often if your sausage likes to dig).
  • Ear and Eye Care: Weekly checks — their floppy ears trap dirt easily.
  • Paw & Nail Care: Trim nails every 2–3 weeks; long-haired Doxies may need paw trims too.
  • Teeth: Brush with a dog-safe toothpaste 3 times/week minimum.

When to call Lola’s Pet Salon

  • When mats form behind the ears or tail.
  • When their coat gets dusty, dull, or just a bit too wild.
  • When it’s time for expert trimming — and a no-drama, sparkle-inducing ultrasonic clean.
