How to Groom a Chihuahua at Home

“Ah, the Chihuahua—small in size, mighty in presence. Be they sleek as a pebble or fluffed like a feather, these little emperors demand more than their stature suggests. With just a bit of regular care, your Chihuahua shall remain as sharp and splendid as their royal lineage implies.” — Lola

At-Home Grooming Routine

  • Brushing:
  • Short-haired: Once a week with a rubber mitt.
  • Long-haired: 2–3x a week with a soft slicker brush.
  • Bathing: Every 4–6 weeks with a gentle, small-dog-friendly shampoo.
  • Ear & Eye Care: Check weekly. Chihuahuas can get tear stains—clean with vet-approved wipes.
  • Eye Trimming: Keep hair away from the eyes using rounded-tip scissors or an electric trimmer on a low setting
  • Paw & Nail Care: Trim nails every 2–3 weeks; those little paws don’t wear them down much!

When to call Lola’s Pet Salon

  • If you need help with nail trimming—those tiny toes can be tricky.
  • For long-haired Chis, book a full groom every 8 weeks.
  • If you notice buildup around eyes or ears.
