How to Groom a Cockapoo at Home

“Ah, the Cockapoo—a most delightful companion, adorned with a coat of silken curls that gleam in the light like spun gold. Yet, such beauty is not without its demands! Without proper care, these enchanting waves may succumb to dreadful tangles and unruly knots. But fear not, dear human, for with a touch of diligence and the right tools, your beloved Cockapoo shall remain as resplendent as ever.” — Lola

At-Home Grooming Routine

  • Daily Brushing: Use a slicker brush or dematting comb to prevent tangles, especially around the ears, chest, and paws.
  • Bathing: Once every 4–6 weeks with a hypoallergenic, dog-safe shampoo. Cockapoos have sensitive skin, so avoid human shampoos!
  • Ear Care: Check weekly—moisture buildup can cause infections. Use a vet-approved ear cleaner and cotton pad.
  • Eye Trimming: Keep hair away from the eyes using rounded-tip scissors or an electric trimmer on a low setting
  • Paw & Nail Care: Trim nails every 2-3 weeks and check for matting between paw pads.

When to call Lola’s Pet Salon

  • Every 6–8 weeks for a full groom to maintain coat health and prevent matting.
  • If mats start forming, brushing alone may not be enough—professional dematting or a full groom may be needed.
  • If your Cockapoo’s coat is getting too long and obstructing vision.
  • If you notice an unpleasant smell from the ears, it’s time for a deep clean.
